Actually I think the damage was done before the second term started.
This government scares me. A lot. I try to explain to my Austrian wife how this happened. She simply said, "I understand. There's no explanation for the Nazis, either, but they happened." I'm not comparing our government to the Nazis, but we've elected ourselves an inexplicable government, twice, and now it's time to pay the piper.
