Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dumb - War Criminals Still at Large
The joint news conference between Tony Me-Too (Blair) and Bush the other day was a study in forced assertiveness. Each of these national leaders who has brought us the fiasco in Iraq is now disgraced and discredited at home. Each is trying to fake his way boldly through a year or two of continued formal leadership of nations terribly at sea due to their latter day efforts at neo-colonialism horrendously gone astray.
If one is to judge from the headlines, we may soon be seeing rockets heading out from Israel towards Syria and Iran rather than negotiations to rescue some semblance of order in that region as advised by the committee of Bush elders assembled to tell it as it is.
Iraq is a miserable failure which has cost thus far about 150,000 lives (per Iraq's government's figures) with mounting slaughter daily. And so too Afghanistan where a new start in restructuring its destroyed infrastructure and people's lives was abandoned, leaving it to tip towards increasing killing and the opium trade again reestablished as its only viable national economic resource!
Where we shall go this next two years, I do not know. But the signs are not good that we will avoid being drawn into even more slaughter, if the Israeli right-wing takes over and launches g-d knows what weapons against its "enemies." Perle was recommending an immediate military attack on Syria early last summer.
Both Bush and Blair look to me like frightened little boys who have been caught trying to steal cookies out of the cookie jar -- to use a benign image. In fact they are both war criminals who are directly responsible for launching a criminal war. And the deaths and maimings going on over there on a daily basis rest directly on their heads. Hopefully their war criminal status will go down in history as a reminder of the evils of empire building -- genocide and ethnic cleansing -- that should have been ended off in the 20th century with the efforts of those brave men and women who gave their lives in a series of world wars to bring us peace in our time.
Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb are both contemptible individuals, claimants to divine inspiration for their evil doings? Such is the most dangerous source of murderous fanaticism, as the culture wars that they have helped fuel are all too horrible evidence -- Jesus or Mohammed loves me for killing my enemies?
And may Yahweh somehow restrain the Israelis from their own version of this brutal madness -- "Olmert not ruling out attack on Iran" (Jerusalem Post, 12/9/06). Lest we forget -- 9 out of 10 of those killed and maimed in modern warfare are innocent civilians! Ed Kent
