Warlords Got $10,000 Each for Guantanamo 'Terrorists'

"Americans are being told all Guantanamo inmates are mad-dog terrorists. Not true. Most were rounded up in Afghanistan by local warlords offered $10,000 or more per head by the US for `terrorist’ captives."

I read somewhere that 87% of those imprisoned at Guantanamo, where FBI agents have recently confirmed that they witnessed torture of retainees, never saw a battlefield:

I also recall General Musharraf boasting of Pakistan's cooperation in rounding up terrorists for imprisonment there -- with the reward of $10,000 a head.

It does not take much imagination to figure that any Afghani or Pakistani with a grude to carry out or in need of monies would be likely to 'turn in' as a terrorist a convenient enemy or member of another tribe.

The upshot has been that we have been holding for more than five years -- separated from family, wives and children -- what are likely many hundreds of totally innocent people, have 'rendered' some of them to secret locations for torture and perhaps death, have tortured and abused them both at Guantanamo and other prisons ranging from our Brooklyn gulag to Abu Ghraib.

Needless to say such gross abuses of our American Constitution and international law deserve punishment for those who have perpetrated these high crimes and misdemeanors -- namely the Bush administrators from the top down.

How much longer must we put up with such betrayals of fundamental American values? Impeach!
