Norman Finkelstein?

I don't know Norman Finkelstein personally. I gather that he is the child of Holocaust survivors, a critic of Israel's treatment of the Palestinians, and an enemy of Alan Dershowitz. He seems to have been supported for tenure by his department at DePaul (9-3) and is being blocked by his dean there and attacked by Dershowitz. My inclination is to support tenure for controversial people so long as they bear the support of their immediate colleagues. We need all points of view to get at the truths underlying controversial matters -- even if some are offended by a critical viewpoint. Perhaps I am wrong here, but I have added my name to the petition supporting tenure. The first website below offers a report from the Chronicle and other reports on this case and the second is a petition of support for Finkelstein directed to the DePaul president. Ed Kent
