All Eight Favor Sending Other People's Kids to War?
This certainly is not the moderate Republican Party with which I grew up as a kid myself. The Democrats then were characterized as the crooks. None with whom I was familiar was challenging evolution (3 of 8 were last night) -- an ancient comic opera debate involving a fundamentalist Democrat. And we are not to use the best of modern scientific medicine to heal the ill -- so much for the Hippocratic Oath! This is still the 21st century. We are not now involved in crusades against the Muslims -- or are we? Thought that ended back in the Middle Ages sometime?
What can one say about this batch of Republicans. Those of us who live in NYC know that Giuliani was a fiasco. Who else would locate his emergency command headquarters in a building already targeted by terrorists. The pictures of him striding around the city following upon 9/11 were the direct consequence of that disastrous decision -- no place left to call his command center.
The ugliest thing that I saw thereafter was a letter from Giuliani to the workers who cleaned up the mess at the "pile" afterwards. We now know that a high percentage of these 20,000 or more workers have suffered possibly fatal injuries to their lungs from the poisons they inhaled. One of them so damage showed me a letter from Giuliani thanking them in one sentence for their efforts -- followed by a full page of threats against any who tried to benefit therefrom -- many were not even paid their full wages through the devious dodges of sub-contractors under the Mayor's supervision of the cleanup, let alone provided with medical care and support. Quite in character for the son of a low level mob enforcer who served time as a felon. His own son has had it with him.
Now let us hope we can find an effective Democrat who can bring this country back together again. I am still on the fence. Whom do you favor? Ed Kent]
