I Condemn Both Our Parties' Pols for Their Responsibility for the Horrors!

[Such incidents as the killing of 5 and likely torture and mutilation of 3 U.S. troops and their interpreter yesterday, give the lie to the effectiveness of the new 'surge' policy in Iraq. This group was apparently vulnerable because it was isolated and under protected. Another U.S. General is yelling for more troops. The Iraqi parliament is biding its time -- presumably waiting us out so that the majority Shiites can do their revenge thing untrammeled.

How long will it take our pols to catch on to what all the rest of us are seeing on a daily basis? I weep not only for those killed and presumably tortured in this incident, but all our troops demoralized over there and their anxious families here at home. One of my students recently reported her depressing let down following her brave enlistment in our military -- from the recruiter's training promises not carried through to the general despair of her fellow troops over there. It is not hard to understand why so many are returning home with post traumatic distress -- untreated by our overwhelmed veterans' support systems. We are going to allow our war criminals to continue this madness ("on principle") to a brutal end? I condemn both of our political parties for their implication in this horror. Ed Kent]
