Israel's 'Scorched Earth' Strategy for Southern Lebanon

It looks very much as though the military in Israel is carrying through with a 'scorched earth' strategy for southern Lebanon (and a good bit of the rest of it): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scorched_earth

The thinking here presumably is that Israel will not have to occupy this territory because there will not be much of anything left to occupy -- a desolate wasteland.

Personally I don't see that this approach will solve Israel's problems -- military measures rarely do unless one can destroy or capture all of one's enemies -- and this punitive action can only create more enemies and fewer allies. I would not want to rest my nation's destiny in the hands of George Bush and the NEOs wolf pack.
