Our Axis of Incompetents -- Bush, Blair, and Olmert

We seem to be in a bit of a mess with three of our key (allied) national leaders at an all time low so far as the confidence in them of their respective societies is concerned. Each has launched misbegotten wars. Each is desperately trying to come across as Mr. Nice Guy. Each is in a position to hang on long enough to do yet more damage to their respective societies (and enemies). Each is currently despoiling democracy in the eyes of too many whose worlds are beset by chaos and violence largely induced by our axis of incompetents. What a message to send out to the wider world -- something on the line of Plato's who argued that only elites, not the masses, can be trusted to govern wisely and justly!

As a social/political/legal philosopher, I (and any others knowledgeable in these fields) are appalled by the destruction -- physical, moral, legal and political -- that our incompetents have wrought. We constantly hear their appeals made to the worst impulses or anxieties of the peoples of our countries -- and their sloganizing outdoes what Herr Goebbels could supply to HIS Führer. We are constantly confronted with lying propaganda which fogs reality. Any who criticize Israel are anti-Semites. Any who oppose the misbegotten wars in the Middle East are supporters of terrorists. One has to be embarrassed to be a member of any of these nations which have so compromised the best of Western values. Racism, bigotry, and crusades are feudal, not democratic, values and practices.

Shame on our three incompetents. May they not be replaced by worse who lurk in the wings with even more brutal and destructive game plans!
