Hitler Thrived for a Time, Too
Hezbollah has goaded Israel into launching an excessive attack on Lebanon, virtually destroying it as a habitable land and mobilizing for itself crowds of supporters here, there and elsewhere in Muslim countries -- most tellingly in Iraq. But its rockets are a failure so far as wounding Israel militarily is concerned and may have offered Israel the excuse it needed to extend its scorched earth excesses to Syria and Iran. Presumably the Sunni Arab nations would not weep excessively at the annihilation of the rising Shia crescent?
Israel for its part has launched an excessive 'final solution' obviously cooked up for a far more threatening type of attack than those launched either from Gaza or from Lebanon. It comes across as the biggest and most brutal bully in the Middle East. There were so many much more subtle and sophisticated ways for Israel to have contended with the mosquito bites from Hezbollah which would have left it is a position of moral strength in the face of attacks and which would have won it world support rather than the contempt that we all feel for a bully.
The U.S. government -- Democrats as well as Republicans -- have responded blindly with instant support of an Israeli war plan that has been escalating as Israel's military improvises in the face of the miserable fiascoes of its air attacks. The U.S. has trashed any moral authority it might have had to halt the brutal killings of innocents on both sides and has revealed the U.S. to be a stupid, clumsy brutal military regime blowing bubbles of propaganda about the 'free enterprise democracy' that it would impose (in its own economic -- oil -- interests) on nations trying to figure their own identities.
One could heap scorn on all three and leave it at that -- were not so many innocent people being targeted by the psychotic brutality of this trilogy. Hopefully the end of all this madness will be the eventual expulsion from leadership of all our war criminals who are now so brutalizing their fellow humans by their vicious self interested fanaticism.
Hitler thrived for a time, too.
