Doubts raised on credibility of 9/11 suspect

[As a legal philosopher I am only one of many thousands of all political persuasions familiar with our legal traditions who has been appalled by the Bush administration's violations both of our Constitution and also international protocols that have in some instances been many centuries in their evolution -- torture, along with slavery, is one of the two "nonderogable" rights (i.e. no exceptions). Needless to say, not only is torture a rights violation of the first order -- it is also probably totally untrustworthy as a source of information. Put yourself in the situation of KSM (as he is widely now known). If you were committed to supporting your comrades and shafting your enemy (us) what could be more effective than false testimony both protecting them and misleading us!

Doubts raised on credibility of 9/11 suspect

Published March 16, 2007

As Khalid Shaikh Mohammed admitted masterminding the Sept. 11 attacks, he also confessed to the gruesome slaying of an American reporter. "I decapitated with my blessed right hand the head of the American Jew, Daniel Pearl, in the city of Karachi, Pakistan," he said, according to a transcript. But can Mohammed's claims be believed? Experts say some can, others can't. As one put it: "I have never known a criminal--either terrorist or otherwise--that didn't exaggerate."
