Whither Joe Lieberman?

Senator Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut -- Democratic Vice Presidential candidate in 2000 and now an independent by virtue of a successful primary challenge to his re-election as a Democrat against which Republicans and Democrats still supporting him managed to re-elect him -- is doing odd things these days that make one wonder whether he plans to switch his alliances even further to the right. Lieberman has just recommended that we bomb Iran:

He joined with the Republicans in opposing the vote of no confidence on the Attorney General.

He strongly supports the war in Iraq.

Lest we forget, Lieberman's Senatorial career was launched with the support of Bill Buckley and his right wing crew through his defeat of a liberal Republican Senator, Lowell Weicker:

One cannot but wonder whether Senator Lieberman may be contemplating a further break that could tip control of the Senate back into the hands of the Republicans.

Needless to say such a move would throw our government into even more disarray than it is displaying currently. Well at least Bush is playing well in Albania.
